It's good to read that the grant of $330,000 from Transport NSW that Council was supposed to have been lost has been resurrected and that Council has rightly decided to locate the Park and Ride facility in Lead Street.
Some further work apparently needs to be done concurrently there regarding the adjacent drainage infrastructure.
This is good outcome and it is 'People Power' that has made this more appropriate location a reality after the disastrous and very unpopular decision earlier made by Council to locate the Park and Ride at the top of Comur Street with no consultation at all with those residents who would have been most affected.
I praise the Council's recent initiative in establishing a Community Centre where the old roadhouse had been and this facility, along with the very active Men's Shed, adds a dimension to what the town has to offer though, by and large, members of Council weren't at its opening.
I am concerned at the situation of stasis which seems to hinder the development of the Comur Street scape and the lost opportunities of the Liberty Theatre and the public eyesore of the rapidly deteriorating Commercial premises which do nothing to add to the lustre of Yass.
I've said before that Yass as a tidy town really seems to be a tired town and a fine example of what a bit of initiative and imagination can do can be seen when you look at the town Booroowa which is such a contrast to dull old Yass.
I'm told that the General Manager is to have his six monthly review soon and I hope that he will demonstrate that he's worth the additional $32,000 that he recently received as well as the extension of his contract for two years into the next Council's tenure.
