Nationals Member for Burrinjuck, Katrina Hodgkinson said she is pleased the NSW Government is supporting a local youth team to work with the local community, council and police to develop and run an all ages, drug-and-alcohol free event – Shake Y’ass.
“This grant of $1,250 will support Cathy Campbell and the Yass Valley Youth Council with a live music showcase called 'Shake Y’ass' featuring local performers under the age of 25. Shake Y’ass is aimed at promoting the performers’ music to the broader community,” she said.
Councillor Jasmin Jones said they were able to apply for the funding because the youth council has shown it is committed.
“The youth council will discuss how best to utilize this grant, whether to support another event or preexisting event,” Cr Jones said.
“We will be building on work already done and we are very excited to receive this grant. We are really starting to build on putting Yass on the youth music scene.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts, Troy Grant, said the funding encourages young people to participate in arts and culture and brings opportunities for artistic development to local communities.
The funding is provided through the Indent Partnership Grants program administered by MusicNSW on behalf of Arts NSW.
Indent funding is open to groups of at least five people, aged 12-25, who are working in partnership with a support organisation such as a local council or youth service.
The Indent program offers grants of up to $2,500 for small scale grassroots events targeted at the local community and up to $5,000 for larger events that have grown from the grassroots level.
