If only John Heggart had pulled the shot that he did last Saturday on the Sunday of the Yass Open in December, he would have walked away with a new car. John has managed to drop the first hole in one on the 15th hole, in quite a while, with a shot that I have been told he was not overly impressed with, but managed to make it past the rough and roll up the dome shaped green to meet the hole in a magnificent fashion. Congratulations to John on what many of us golfers still dream of will happen to us one day. With John’s hole in one, he came in with a year topping 46 stableford points to take the A-grade prize.

Sunday competition was a the tricky three-stick-event that makes everyone really think about what they are doing for the first few holes and then thinks, why do we have a whole bag full of these sticks, or I think that’s maybe what Dom Carmody was the thinking as he came in as the overall winner on a count back from Jamie Roche and Ian Kemp, who all came in with 37 points. Graham Fleming proved that a putter is a stick that can be played from almost anywhere on the course, with his nearest the pin on the 16th almost making the second hole in one for the weekend and making his playing partners almost died from laughter.
In Monday’s beat the Captains score event, Captain Nev, looked the goods on the first nine, for not giving any balls away, but fell apart on the back nine and let five players get the better of him. Kim Stephan managed 41 points, of which 24 he amassed on the back nine. On the 10th, Mick Coggan potted the second eagle for the weekend to keep the eagles nest to one ball for this Saturday’s competition.
This week marks the start of ACTDGA pennant season, with the Seniors kicking off at Royal Canberra on Thursday and the A Reserve, B Scratch, B Handicap and Juniors sides playing on Sunday in Canberra.
