Yellow belly: were biting well mid-last-week but seemed to go quiet over the weekend. Increased boat traffic and the windy conditions most likely played a part. There have been some reports of yellows hitting big trolled cod lures. Targeting the trees remains the best option either with sinking lures such as Mask Vibes, Tranzams or spinner baits. Or curl tail plastics that can be dropped straight down into the structure. Bait fishing with shrimp, small yabbies or worms. The fish are holding in less than seven metres of water.
Redfin: schools have been reported at Scrubby, Wade island, slaughter yards and the bluff. Bait fishing with worms works really well but you will be rebaiting fairly often. Try a 50 mm weighted plastic minnow or small metal blade. On light tackle.
Carp: plenty being caught on worms, corn and bread.
Park news: painting is to commence next week on the remaining three cedar cottages with completion before Easter. Don’t forget the upcoming Yellow Belly Competition in March at the park. Lure only.
