About 8.30pm Tasmania Police Search and Rescue received a call for help from six people in the area who had been four-wheel-driving and had become bogged.
The group, that consisted of five adults and one baby from Glenorchy made the decision to walk form their vehicle but as night fell they became lost in the rainforest.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a ground search team were sent to the area. The helicopter located the people about 1-kilometre northwest of Snug Falls but due to low cloud and poor weather was unable to winch them out at this time.
The ground crew accessed the group at about 1am this morning (Sunday) but the group was cold, wet, exhausted, and unable to walk.
Subsequently the helicopter returned to the scene and first light and winched all six people out including the infant.
All were flown to Snug uninjured but checked over by Ambulance Tasmania paramedics.
Tasmania Police would like to advise people in similar circumstances requiring assistance to not leave their vehicles as this complicated the rescue in this instance and there were grave concerns initially for the infant.
