Born on the 22/2/1925 at ‘Limestone’, Agnes Keogh has always been a country girl. Agnes did spend some time away in Sydney with husband Keith who she had married at the age of twenty one. In Sydney she worked at Peter’s Ice-Cream and also served as a Tea Lady, two jobs which she enjoyed immensely, but a craving for the country was always evident and had a strong pull.

Sadly Agnes’s husband Keith died in 1976 and in 1979 Agnes moved back to Bowning. Waiting for her was her six-month-old great-nephew Stephen, son of Ron and Helen Hearne, who stole her heart and has remained close and forever caring. Agnes spent many loving years caring for her mother Mrs Daley, who passed away in 1992. For many years now Agnes’s pet cockatoo who I remember from childhood as a ‘Cheeky Cocky’, has let everyone know if something different is going on or if someone is coming to pay Agnes a visit. He provides that extra bit of security when needed and friendship.
Family in the area visit Agnes regularly and a cup of tea or coffee and a few tasty biscuits are always on offer. It has been that way for as long as I can remember for Agnes is a neighbour of my family’s home.
More of Agnes’s family are travelling from Tasmania to come and celebrate her birthday and other family and friends will also be popping in to wish her an extra special birthday greeting. Celebrations will be held in Yass with dinner and I am sure many stories will be told.
From all Bowning resident,s we wish Agnes a very heartfelt Happy 90th Birthday.
