The visual assessment also identified some additional areas where Asbestos Contanimated Material (ACM) was present.
A Planning and Environmental Services report stated that preliminary advice on the visual inspection, which was received on January 16, indicated the presence of bonded asbestos at the site.
Access to these areas was restricted in the same way Council fenced the other three areas, however the report indicated that the bonded material posed no immediate safety threats.
Recommendations from the assessment included a walk over the site by a licenced asbestos removalist to collect and remove any suspected loose pieces of visible bonded ACM.
Where suspected ACM has been used as ‘packing material’ between bearers and supports/piers for several cabins sites, the edges should be sealed with a PVA product.
The operator was instructed to remove the suspected loose ACM and seal suspected ACM at any cabin supports/piers by a licensed removalist and as a precautionary measure.
Fieldwork was completed on February 9 with samples submitted to the laboratory for testing.
Director of Planning and Environmental Services, Chris Berry, said that at this stage the consultant report and recommendations had not yet been received and once finalised it will be presented to council.
