Merritt has been sparring regularly over the last couple of weeks and with the help of his sponsors, Robbo’s Gym and Alliance Building Group in Canberra, he hopes to make it three from three in Wollongong tomorrow night.
Merritt rises at 4am almost every morning where he works on his strength and cardio fitness skills and he returns to the gym in the afternoon where he concentrates predominantly on his boxing skill set.
Merritt’s trainer ‘Spider’, who has worked with the Yass fighter for around 18 months, said his subject is “ridiculously fit”.
“His fitness just kills people, he destroys people with his fitness and they just can’t match it with him,” he told the Tribune.
Merritt is currently enjoying life as an amateur boxer but his coach said he hasn’t ruled out going professional at some stage in the future.
