Cuts to TAFE is shaping as a major election issue, as is the deregulation of universities and the NSW 'poles and wires' privatisation plan.
This has been particularly contentious not only for the state as a whole but for Yass especially, due to the fact we house one of the Transgrid hubs.
The Tribune took to the streets to do their own pre-election polling and asked local residents who they were voting for on March 28.
Jerrawa resident Edith Buckley said she has never been a swinging voter.
“For the last 20 plus years I have voted the same way… but I can’t divulge that information,” Ms Buckley laughed.
“I look for approachability in my candidate, someone that I feel comfortable going to and someone you can relate to.”
She said that she has found this election particularly boring.
“There doesn't seem to be any interesting or original thoughts. It’s the same old arguments."
Although many residents are fed up with all the election chatter and polling ‘battleground’, Bowning resident Stuart Atkins said he has heard very little about this particular election.
“What’s important to me is employment for all ages; if you ain't got the jobs you ain't got a country,” Mr Atkins said.
“I’m also a big advocate for the usual issues, like the Barton Highway and the Yass Hospital.”
Mr Atkins snuck in early on Wednesday to vote Labor because he has never trusted the Liberals.
Stan Waldren from Yass said that he will be voting for Wal Ashton this Saturday.
“Health to me is a big issue and I like the approach that he has taken. But Pru has promised a lot of funding for health,” Mr Waldren said.
“I think Wal is creative and he is about working with other parties, not against them.”
Sophie who lives in Yass said that she will be supporting The Greens all the way this election.
Yass High School and Environmental issues have been important to her and she believes the Greens Party is the best representation for her.
Kirsten, also from Yass, said that she is a strong believer in her community being resilient and proactive. She believes that by voting left-wing she will have greater support.
Murrumbateman local Rick said that management of the NSW economy is important to him.
“On the basis of performance that I have seen so far I will be voting for the Liberals,” he said.
