The problems arose after most players were forced to play both the 1pm and 3pm match-ups at Warramanga.
The injection of usual first-graders in the Division 6 match meant Yass ran away with the game, winning 5-2.
Daniel Taylor, Jarrad Porter, Brendan Heat and new recruits Brendon Scanes and Bradley Nielson, each found the back of the net.
Scanes and Nielson also cleaned up most of the Player's Player points, with Scanes eventually taking the spoils.
In the second game Yass started strongly, with Brett Darmody heading home to give the visitors an early lead.
But slowly the petrol ran out, with at least a handful of players succumbing to muscle soreness and cramp.
The Division 5 Weston Molonglo side eventually managed two goals to go up by one.
A couple of near-misses, including one from point blank from Oliver Watson, meant Yass walked away with just one win from two games.
Daniel Taylor dominated in the Player's Player poll.
Coach Gary Lennon said it was a tough day for a number of players.
"When you have that many people backing up it's always going to be tough," he said.
"But as I told the boys, they did everything they could and played pretty well considering. It was a gutsy effort."
The news was worse for the two women's sides, both of which lost against Belwest.
In matches at Dickson, Yass was trounced 4-0 in the Division 3 fixture at 12pm.
Things weren't much better for the Division 4 side, who lost 4-2. Annie Hill kept her side in the game, scoring a brace for the Redbacks.
On Saturday the men's sides play against UC at Walker Park, with Division 6 kicking off at 1pm.
On Sunday the Yass women will host Belnorth, with Division 3 starting things off at 12pm.
Belnorth's Division 3 side is coming off a massive 14-0 win over Tuggeranong.
