The ‘Soul in the Bush’ conference will see over 80 youth descend on Yass from today until Friday to work on practical projects that help the local community. Participants will be at each site between 11.30am and 2.30pm each day.

Zac’s Place is a community facility that reaches out to people on the fringe of society. During ‘Soul in the Bush’, around 20 youth will clean, paint and sort donations. This project will help Glenn and Ros Stewart make the most of their space.
Zac’s Place is located at the old St Clement’s Church Hall, Pritchett Street, Yass.
The Yass Community Garden is a valuable facility that creates opportunity for diverse groups of people to meet, share knowledge of gardening and food and foster health and wellbeing. The garden is in need of some TLC, so around 10 ‘Soul in the Bush’ delegates will revamp the kids play area, weed the gardens and plant some winter vegetables.
The garden is located on Pritchett Street, Yass behind the Anglican church.
On hearing about ‘Soul in the Bush’, Yass Valley Council and sporting teams asked if the delegates could paint the fences at Victoria Park and O’Connor Park. Around ten delegates will be at each project.
On the Friday, the fences will presumably be finished and the delegates may finish with a game of cricket.
Local Peter Rose has put in a big effort building a new fence for historic Cooma Cottage. During ‘Soul in the Bush’, a small group of delegates will help him finish the job with a final coat of paint.
Cooma Cottage is located on Yass Valley Way.
Local Connie Elliott has been keen to see the Bowning Village Hall receive a fresh paint job, but has not had the manpower to do it. A small group of ‘Soul in the Bush’ delegates will help paint this hall to bring new life into this facility.
‘Soul in the Bush’ delegates will paint a fence, do some gardening and move some furniture at Yass Public School, located on Grampian Street. This project was organised by Yass Community Baptist Church. who are looking for ways to serve their local community.
Around 12 ‘Soul in the Bush’ delegates will cook meals or baked goods, then deliver them to families in need. This project was organised by Yass Community Baptist Church.
Cooking will happen today and tomorrow at the Yass Community Baptist Church between 11.30am-2.30pm. Meals will be delivered on Friday between 11.30am-2.30pm.
Around 12 ‘Soul in the Bush’ delegates will walk along Comur Street, asking retailers if they can clean their windows, sweep out the front of their shops or any other practical tasks. This project was organised by Yass Community Baptist Church.
On hearing about ‘Soul in the Bush’, Murrumbateman pre-school asked for some help in fixing their gardens and sanding and varnishing some play equipment. On the third day of the project, the children will prepare afternoon tea for the delegates.
‘Soul in the Bush’ is a Christian youth conference where delegates from across NSW and the ACT camp in Canberra and travel to regional towns to serve in projects as a way of putting practical expression to their Christian faith. Delegates have been allocated across over 20 projects in five towns – Yass, Burra, Goulburn, Murrumbateman and Wee Jasper.
