In an effort to recreate the ‘glory days’, the convoy travelled from Sydney on Highway 31 - the Old Hume Highway, and arrived in Yass late in the afternoon. 

Organiser Bruce Gunter said over 250 trucks participated in the run, with many more "hangers on". 

“This was the third time we have held the run, the first was in 2011 and the second was in 2013. We have changed a few things because we have outgrown some venues,” Mr Gunter said.

The convoy met at the Yass Memorial Hall where 380 people were invited for a sitdown meal on the Saturday night. 

The convoy raises money for Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect); Australia’s leading service provider for autism and other disabilities.

“We were hoping to raise in excess of $20,000 and we don’t have the figures in yet but I think we’ll be around the mid 30’s mark. We far exceeded our expectations, thanks to our sponsors and participants. We also had a silent auction which raised about $9000,” he said.

“This predominantly started off as a historic truck run and nothing else, but one thing led to another and we have been able to raise money and become more and more well known.”

The run got started at the Hawkesbury Showground in Sydney.

“We travelled down the northern road through Penrith and then down the Old Hume Highway; the old razorback. We had lunch in Goulburn and there was quite a big turnout there,” he added. 

While some may not find the prospect of travelling on the Old Hume Highway appealing, others say that it is camaraderieship and a rare chance to show off their machines. 

“There were a lot of people that pull the trucks apart and do lots of restoration, sometimes you hear figures of about $100-150,000 worth of restorations being done ... but that’s the passion.” 

Hundreds of locals turned out to see the trucks and talk to their owners. In Yass, the best viewing time was Sunday morning, as the trucks gathered outside the Yass Men's Shed for a final farewell, before heading off home again.
