With two significant defeats of the Bears by 90 and 80 points respectively, Binalong would have been confident of a big win against Burrangong last Saturday. That confidence took a dent when Burrangong crossed in the first three minutes of the game to hold a 4-0 lead. The winless Bears went on to score 14 points in the game and we need to go back to the record books to find another Club able to score that many points in a game against Binalong in recent years. All players took the field to pay their respects for Anzac Day.

Perhaps the Brahmans took the Bears a bit cheaply but there were several key Binalong players who had limited or no game time for round 3. The home side struck back with a try minutes later to take the lead. And in the 15th minute fullback Tim Regan weaved his way up field for 70 metres to score and convert his own try. Regan had a stellar day scoring two tries and six goals. So it went on with stalwarts Tony Worthy and Ben Spencer stand-outs in defence and attack.
As the break approached Chris Rawlinson hurled a spectacular long cut-out pass across to Daniel Poidevin to score wide out on the right. At half time the score stood at 34-8 Binalong’s way.
An overcast day with little or no wind found the Brahmans in command again in the second stanza with a try after two minutes to bring up a 40-8 score. The referee allowed a more free-flowing game this week and the penalties were fairly evenly shared. However, Binalong did allow two penalties in quick succession mid way through the second half. This gave the Bears a sniff and they capitalised for a score of 46-14. Haiden Bush and Reuben Olah had strong games, as did Dylan Arabin in his second first grade outing.
The game wound down, with the Brahmans well in control of proceedings. However, the Bears managed to score 14 points in this game and defence might be something of concern for the coaching staff, a proud tradition of Binalong’s resolute defensive stance took a small hit last Saturday. No Woodbridge Cup games this weekend as this is the representative round for Country Week. However, the coming Saturday sees the opening round of George Tooke Shield when the Yass Magpies face off against the Harden Hawks at McLean Oval, Harden.
Binalong’s League Tag side continued in top form with Bron Pollack, Ali Giles and Jess Howard very dominant, it was Tammy Poidevin who showed her opponents a clean pair of heels, with one try from a 70 metre sprint to score her second for the day. The girls blitzed the Burrangong side by 76-0; this sees the Jersey Girls on top of the ladder ahead of Canowindra.
In other first grade games:- Canowindra 18 def Gooloogong 16, Eugowra 38 def Condo 20, Trundle 34 def Grenfell 30, Peak Hill 33 def Cargo 14. These results see Binalong move up the ladder to second behind Eugowra and then in third place Canowindra then Peak Hill.
There was no Youth League game for Binalong this week as they had the bye.
