I am one of many, and I believe the majority, who disagrees with his assessment. Most Australians have moved upwards and onwards since Lambing Flats. The Abbott government's efforts to manage the current tragic asylum seeker situation has saved lives and seriously reduced the inhumane criminal activities of the people smugglers.
By way of Navy, Customs, Immigration, Health and Social Welfare services, everyday Australians are providing front-line, face-to face 'first aid' to deal with a situation not of Australia's making and they are to be commended.
Millett's emotional outburst does a disservice not only to the good Australian people whose efforts are genuine in dealing with this worldwide problem, he denigrates the reputation of Australians in general.
We do care and we do want a fair go for all. Millett's energies would be better placed in criticising and doing something about the leaders and the regimes that are causing these problems .
