The organisation has set a target of $9000 for this area, which includes all of the Yass Valley and parts of the Upper Lachlan Shire, including Gunning and Dalton.
The Salvation Army and Westpac have been working together for around 50 years and branch manager Olivia Pearce said it's a great initiative to be a part of.
"We love being part of the Red Shield Appeal and it's great to get involved in the community."
The money which is collected here will be distributed to the town's welfare store, which will then distribute money to those in need. Some of the money will also be sent to various rehabilitation centres in Canberra, which some Yass locals currently attend.
Major Lock said the Red Shield Appeal has and always will have room for new volunteers.
"There's obviously the doorknock fundraising, but if you can't do that just give me a call and we'll find something for you to do."
Anyone looking to volunteer is encouraged to phone Major Lock on 6288 1488 or 0423 294 094.
Residents should keep an ear out for a knock on the door for one whole week starting next Saturday. If you are away from home you can visit the Westpac Branch and donate. There are also collection tins at Woolworths, the Newsagency, IGA, McDonalds and the local store on Meehan Street.
