But Canberra trainer Nick Olive is hopeful he'll have two runners, Single Gaze and Bring A Secret, in the group 1 BMW JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on June 7.

The news for Olive at Thursday's barrier draw for Saturday's group 2 BRC Sires Produce Stakes (1350m) was mixed, with Bring A Secret drawing one and Single Gaze the widest possible 16 barrier.

It continued Magic Millions and Blake Opal placegetter Single Gaze's horror luck after she drew wide before finishing 10th in the Golden Slipper, and again for the Group 2 Champagne Classic at Doomben on May 9.

Despite missing the start and rounding the bend awkwardly, Bring A Secret earned a trip to Brisbane with an impressive maiden win at Canterbury on May 13.

The two-year-old gelding is right in the betting at $8 for the Sires Produce, while Single Gaze is a $12 hope.

Olive said Single Gaze has already proven herself, but warned not to discount Bring A Secret who he expects to improve again.

"He's very progressive and just doing everything on raw ability at the moment, but I feel he's top-line this horse and is on his way to bigger things," Olive said.

"He's very immature, green and raw, we thought he was going well enough with a bit more improvement for Brisbane.

"It's hard to split them. Single Gaze has already proven herself at this level, while the other is a really nice horse but still learning his craft and hasn't raced at this level.

"I hope they both run great races and we can go forward into the Group 1 in two weeks."

Olive admitted the wide barrier has badly hurt Single Gaze's chances, but believes the filly is crying out for the mile trip.

Saturday will be the first time Single Gaze has gone past 1200 metres, and Olive said how she fares will be a pointer to her chances over more distance at group 1 level a fortnight later.

"She's had a rough trot with barriers," he said.

"She's got no gate speed so she can't go forward from out there, it means she has to go back. She always works home nicely, but hasn't been able to get in races over shorter distances.

"I think she's looking for it [more distance] but Saturday will be the first time she's done it, it is a big test for her.

"She needs to run well and if she does that, she'll head off to the group 1."
