Travelling Stock Reserves (TSRs) are parcels of Crown land reserved under legislation for use by travelling stock. Local Land Services (LLS) manage over 500,000 hectares of TSRs in NSW. In the Yass district there are 63 TSRs under the management of the South East LLS, totalling approximately 1100 hectares.

These TSRs provide pasture reserves for travelling or grazing stock, which can be beneficial in times of drought, bushfire or flood. They have also retained important remnants of biologically diverse native vegetation; many in the Yass district support significant stands of box gum woodlands which are considered endangered ecological communities.
Over the next two months South East LLS staff will be installing new signs on TSRs across the region. The signs aim to increase local community awareness of TSRs and their uses and will specify the reserve name and number, as well as provide contact details if members of the public wish to have more information on particular reserves.
Keep an eye out for the new TSR signs as you drive around, you may be surprised by where you find them! For more information on TSRs and their use, please contact the Yass Local Land Service office on 02 6118 770.
