At its May meeting, Councillors voted unanimously to accept the recommendation of its Environment and Planning Department that the Development Application for the Motocross facility on Ladevale Road (DA 84/2014) be refused. Those in the gallery applauded the decision with the main emotion being one of relief on a burden lifted.

The reasons for refusal were pursuant to sections of the Environment Planning & Assessment Act 1979. Reasons for refusal included that the proposed facility was considered contrary to both the aims of the State Environmental Planning Policy (Rural Lands) 2008 and to objectives of the Upper Lachlan Development Control Plan 2010.
The proposed Motocross has caused community tensions and stretched or broken the bonds of some friendships. Those who opposed the development had good reasons relating to their livelihoods, life choices and community amenity. For those who love and participate in the sport having it refused is seen as a great loss.
My take home message is give it time, don’t ruin friendships and try not to judge too harshly those with whom you do not agree.
There were 116 public submissions to Council about the Motocross DA. All objected. The full report and recommendation for refusal to Council concerning the Motocross DA are in its Business Papers for May 21, with copies at Council offices and Libraries or on Council’s website.

The good folk at Gunning Community Care (GCC) took more than a passive interest in the district wide power outage on May 20. They realised that for vulnerable people in the community, a day without power could put them at risk of chills, dehydration and accidents through lack of adequate heat and light.
Staff from GCC collected people in their bus and then brought them to the Courthouse where a warm and entertaining environment was provided through use of a generator.
Guests ranged from a few weeks old to people well into their later decades, enjoying games, homemade cakes and a barbeque lunch.
President of GCC’s Management Committee, Michael Coley thanked Essential Energy and Genplus for the generator; Goulburn businesses for donating food; Alan Bush for barbequing skills and GCC’s Karen Waters and Vanessa MacKay.
GCC are to be congratulated on this proactive event in looking after those who most need it.
Unbelievable! Dalton’s Biggest Morning Tea, a Cancer Council fundraiser, brought in over $1000. Rob Lee Tet from the Dalton PO said that about 25 people attended. Special thanks go to Betty and Len Pye for the venue and to those who donated and attended.
