It still astounds me that Australia doesn’t have marriage equality. We're supposedly one of the most democratic and libertarian societies in the world, although, we're far from inclusive and equitable. To deprive people the right to unite and celebrate their relationship in the most symbolic and significant way is absolutely deplorable.

The Marriage Act 1961 (Cth), religious beliefs, and homophobia; everyone that opposes marriage equality has an "acceptable" reason as to why it should not be legalised and to justify such discrimination.
The Catholic Church believes it will cripple the sanctity of marriage, let's just disregard infidelity and divorce, and one Australian Bishop even likens children in homosexual relationships to those of the stolen generation. After all, two loving parents is parallel to the forceful removal of children and genocide of an entire culture. Moreover, the Catholic Church insist the absence of both sexes in a marriage will be detrimental to the development of children, because all marriages consist of kids, parents are always involved or never die, homosexual couples don't already raise kids and the abhorrent domestic violence trends in this country don't in any way damage kids. All nonsense.
Obviously, it's not solely the Catholic Church that opposes marriage equality. There's also the Federal Government who don't support it as they're focusing on their "small business" plan, albeit, you mustn’t forget their leader is highly religious. Plus, homophobes, who mind you, can marry and divorce innumerable times.
Why shouldn't gay marriage be legalised? There isn't one genuine reason as to continue this unconscionable discrimination. It's preposterous to suggest that marriage will be adversely impacted by marriage equality, being that all marriages are genuine, oh, apologies Geoffrey Edelsten! Besides, its dignity has already been thrown out the door with contemptible shows such as Married At First Sight and A Farmer Wants A Wife. We're really looking after marriage aren't we!
Marriage should not be a privilege reserved for heterosexual and transsexual couples and denied to homosexual couples. As the Law Council Of Australia says, marriage equality is fundamental to respect, inclusion and freedom.
