The policy’s aim is to reduce the carbon footprint of the the Yass Valley and engage with the community to develop initiatives that promote the social, economic, environmental and personal benefits of sustainability.
Councillor Jasmin Jones is excited about what the policy means for Yass.
“I have to acknowledge the work of Kym Nixon and the Sustainability Committee,” she said.
“There is already some of the key aspects of the policy in effect and the difference it has made already is amazing.
Councillor Ann Daniel was equally as excited.
“The policy has clear cut language that covers all basis. The work that has already been done is fabulous.”
Councillor Greg Butler was less impressed, saying the policy demonstrated a “narrow point of view” and was only a “small step in the right direction”.
