Darcy began playing basketball in the ACT, later selected for the ACT Academy of Sport program at the Australian Institute of Sport. He played for the Canberra Gunners and then for Australia in the under-17 World University Games where the team won silver. He was scouted and signed for a Basketball Scholarship at LSU for 2013.
Surprise visit
Just recently Darcy came home on a secret trip to visit family, giving his mother the surprise of her life. She thought she was talking to him on the phone at what would have been 2am in his US home at Baton Rouge when he walked in the door.
Darcy will be returning to Australia in August for the LSU Down Under Tour where they will be playing an Australian All Stars team and Melbourne United, among others. Tickets for the LSU Down Under Tour are available at ticketbooth.com.
Twenty-year-old Darcy has two years to work towards his goal in America of being selected for the 2017 draft. Big sister Brydie said that his family is very proud of his achievements so far and are blessed to have LSU Tigers take Darcy under their paw.
Could the name Darcy Malone become as well known amongst basketball aficionados as those of fellow Australians Matthew Dellavedova and Andrew Bogut whose teams the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors battled out the NBA finals this year? Watch this space!
