Up against the imposing Harden Hawkettes side, who have lost just once this year, Yass was within just four points at the main break after Liana Wylie ran half the field to score. Steph Milhajevic obliged and they trailed only 10-6 at half time.
Immediately after halftime Lucy Prosser found the white stripe and scored her own four-pointer. Milhajevic again converted and all of a sudden the hosts led 12-10.
It was as good as it would get for the Girlpies though, and Harden quickly regained the momentum.
They went on to score 22 unanswered points meaning the locals went down 32-12.
While the loss was a dissapointing one, it demonstrated that the Black and Whites can match it with the best.
This weekend they'll have a chance to turn the tables, when they face the Hawkettes once again at Walker Park
After the Magpies had the bye at the weekend, they'll be back in action against Harden.
The Hawks currently sit at the top of the ladder four points clear of Yass in second spot.
