The group exists to help businesses maximise their potential by working together to create a positive environment. The new committee wants to simplify everything and focus on three key areas; networking, advocacy and offering practical support.
New president Michael Pilbrow believes this new committee is the perfect group of local volunteers.
“It’s been a nice smooth transition,” he said.
“The new committee has half of the old committee and then we have new blood which is really perfect in my view, it’s the best way to do it and we’ve got some continuity, which will mean fresh ideas as well.”
He said he is more than happy to give up his time and work as the president of the Yass Valley Business Chamber.
“I just find it a really stimulating group to be a part of. I’m really positive about this town and others have been very encouraging about me stepping up and taking on this role as we were looking for a new president this year.
“I don’t feel like it’s a huge burden, I feel like it is a really positive opportunity.”
While the group is looking at three key areas, Mr Pilbrow said networking will be the group’s highest priority.
“We’ve started with monthly breakfasts, we’ve had two so far and they’ve been just a positive and relaxed opportunity for people to get together and get to know each other, and you just never know what opportunities can come from people meeting each other and talking to each other, so that’s our number one priority at the moment.”
Mr Pilbrow hopes the Chamber can become a “single voice” to represent the views of local businesses.
“Rather than lots and lots of businesses having to separately go and talk to council, or to the government the Business Chamber can collect their views and speak with one voice.”
Members of the Yass Valley Business Chamber also get access to legal and marketing advice through the NSW Business Chamber and can advertise their business at www.yassonline.com.au.
“The important thing is we’re not trying to do a million things, we’re trying to do those three things well,” Mr Pilbrow said.
