In soggy conditions in south Canberra, Yass was up against the Brindabella Blues, a side that's been competitive in both division five and division six this year.
In the division six match Yass got off to a slow start, with Brindabella drawing first blood in the 1pm fixture.
Mitch Darmody was on fire for the Redbacks, though, and set up the Yass equaliser. His cross landed perfectly for midfielder Stu Bradshaw who nodded home from point blank range.
Yass took the lead early in the second stanza, again thanks to some Darmody brilliance. The forward had some time on the ball outside the 18-yard box and made the hosts pay, blasting the ball into the top left corner of the goal.
Yass looked like they might hold on for the win, too, but a defensive lapse late on gave away a free header and Brindabella took full advantage to draw level and claim a point. In what was a mostly fair game, Jarrad Porter did receive a yellow card late in the second half.
While Ryan Betts polled well in the Players' Player voting, Mitch Darmody's performance couldn't be ignored and he took home the most votes.
The division six match turned into a real scrap, with Yass resorting to some desperate defence to get the 1-0 result.
Darmody scored early on in the piece for Yass, but the Redbacks were outclassed for most of the game.
However, Brindabella didn't have the gloss to beat goalkeeper Rex Stacey, who dominated in the Players' Player polling after another stellar performance.
A number of cards were dished out, too, with Darmody and Stacey all receiving cautions. Simon Geraghty was shown a red card late in the second stanza and was ordered to leave the grounds after a heated argument with the referee.
Coach Gary Lennon said it was a tough ask for his players.
"I was really happy with the effort, especially in that second game," he said.
"We didn't play our best football but to dig deep like that and still take the three points was the most pleasing part of the day."
The Division 6 Redbacks will come up against the undefeated Gungahlin United on Saturday and, if they can get the upset, will more than likely finish second on the ladder.
The Division 5 Gungahlin side forfeited against the UC Pumas last week, so it remains to be seen whether the Yass players will even have to back up this weekend.
Both games are scheduled to be held in Nicholls.
The Division 3 Ladies had no luck in finding the back of the net against Narrabundah on Sunday, with the match eventually finishing 0-0 at Walker Park.
Midfielder Danielle Collins-Hart made a number of good breaks up front, and claimed Players' Player for her efforts.
The girls now sit in second spot, and are in a great position to make a run come finals time.
In poor conditions, the Division 4 Redbacks had a solid day out and won 4-1 against Narrabundah.
Three players were sidelined with injuries during the game, leaving Yass without any substitutes but they did enough to bring home the win.
Coach Kath Farnell said she was proud of their efforts considering many of the players are studying for their HSC. The girls sit in third spot.
This Sunday the women come up against Tuggeranong in Kambah, with division three starting at 12pm and division four at 2pm.
