There were different types of stalls forced indoors because of the weather, which really proved to be a better option, keeping people together. Those brave golfers ventured out in the rain but those sooky bowlers squibbed before even testing the green. Belinda and Kerry were able to attend, Kerry just out of hospital after a fall through the week.
The barbecue was popular and Lil's smorgasbord was fabulous. The huge raffle and the auction kept people interested, but I think there might be some who woke up this morning to find they had won the bid for items they did not really want. However, it raised money and kept people in the club. The junior photography competition was won by Bryce Glover and Thomasina Knight.
Congratulations to the committee for organising such a wonderful event. I did not think it was possible to have another successful fundraiser as there have been many in the last couple of years but again it proves that people are very generous, especially when it is for local causes. I am sure all involved thank the committee for their efforts and the public for supporting them.
And love and best wishes to Belinda and Kerry.
The winning golfers were Tim Smith and Adam Danilczak, and Chris Glover and Ben Grange won the handicap. Ethel Lee won the longest drive and the nearest the pin for the ladies (and she also had a birthday) while Michael Paterson won the men's longest drive and Joe Dyball was nearest the pin. Juniors Jack Paterson and Jack Glover received trophies. Next Saturday Godfrey Regan will donate trophies for a two stick and putter event starting at 2pm. An 18 holes two person Ambrose event is on Sunday, starting at 1pm, with trophies donated by John and Norma Blair.
Last week I mentioned Allan Pigram and the re-incarnation of the kitchen area of the Binalong Hall and I have since determined that his assistant was Adrian Sheldrick so the community thanks both of them. Everything now complies with the Health and Safety regulations, new stainless steel benches, hobs, splash back etc and a coat of paint has worked wonders with the old sad and dilapidated kitchen. The committee also thanks Michael Bradshaw for the great job he has done sanding the floor. The renovations so far have cost about $1400 and have been funded by grants from the Bendigo Bank, Yass Council, a heritage grant and a donation from the late Janice Schultz. The committee also thank post mistress Nicole for her role in handling bookings. The executive officers are president Belinda Pigram, secretary Jan Giles and treasurer Di Hopkirk.
A new executive has also saved the Red Cross from going into recess and possible closure. Thanks to new president Kathleen Phillips, secretary Charlotte Middleton and treasurer Kathy Mitchell. The Red Cross will continue to function and already they have some new ideas for the next 12 months. Anyone interested is very welcome to attend the meetings in the Hotel Lounge at 4pm on the third Thursday of each month. To assist the newcomers, Gwen Sykes and Elaine Dougherty accepted the vice-president's positions.
It is probably an appropriate time to thank the previous office bearers who have done a great job for so many years.
The school was successful in obtaining a grant to run Sporting School for terms three and four. Softball has already begun as has the Footsteps Dance and plans are underway for the Arabin Cup in September. Table tennis tables have also been obtained.
The staff members have welcomed Luke Cotter to the school for his two weeks of practice teaching.
Star winners for the first week back were Jack Paterson, Jamie Merton and Ella Saunders and for last week were Oscar Knight, Alerya Brayshaw and Nolan Yates.
Until next time.
