The First Grade Rams were demolished 72-0 by a rampaging Goulburn Dirty Reds side, while Second Grade fared better, losing 17-5.
The First Grade Goulburn side remains undefeated this year and Rams Second Grade co-coach Bronson Sainsbury said that it will take a special performance to even challenge them come finals time.
“The Dirty Reds are just head and shoulders over everyone else at the moment and that was pretty obvious on Saturday,” he said.
“They are a city team playing smaller clubs and lots of them have been playing together for a long time. But we are confident that we can give them a real run come finals time because anything can happen then.”
First Grade now sits equal fourth with RMC, who have Goulburn for their last game of the season tomorrow. It means if Yass can overcome ADFA, they’ll more than likely qualify for finals.
Ahead of Yass is Cooma, with the Hall Bushrangers expected to hold down second spot on the Monaro Cup ladder.
“At the moment though, we just have to focus on getting that win on Saturday, we are behind on four and against so we definitely need the points,” Sainsbury said.
Second Grade have been a shining light for the Yass Rams this year, and have only lost a couple of games the whole season.
The game on Saturday could have gone either way as well, with Yass leading 5-0 for a vast majority of the fixture.
Coach Sainsbury said his side was the better one for a large portion of the game and that Goulburn only got a try late in the second to put the game beyond doubt.
“It’s clear, though, that we have a very strong Second Grade side that has a real shot at winning the competition this year. We’re confident we can do it.”
Second Grade will finish second on the ladder, regardless of what happens tomorrow against ADFA, and will play Goulburn in Goulburn next Saturday.
The Second Grade kicks off at 1.30pm at ADFA tomorrow, with First Grade starting at 3pm.
