Parker notched up another win when he delivered a powerful right hook to the top of Tupou's head, knocking him out just 63 seconds into the fight after the Tongan-born Australian was expected to provide the 23-year-old with some ring time.

The fight received a mixed response by fans, some of whom believing Tupou had taken a dive. There were even sections of the Invercargill crowd who booed when they saw a replay of the knock-out blow.

However, Parker was certain he'd landed a strong punch to Tupou's temple and wasn't not surprised his opponent didn't get up.

"What we have been learning in training camp is to sit down on my punches, sometimes I stand upright and [trainer] Kevin [Barry] explains to me that is when you have less power," Parker said. "So when I sat down on that punch I felt it land cleanly and I could see the result when he went down.

"You know, you definitely feel it when it hits and then you just head to the neutral corner and wait for the ref."

Barry was almost apologetic to the Invercargill crowd that it was over so quick but said what Parker did - against a fighter who had a 25-3 record, including 17 knockouts - made the boxing world stand up and take notice.

"I was very surprised the fight went one round, I said to Joe you are going to have four or five tough rounds with this guy before we beat him, I expected Joe to beat him down but I didn't expect to be one round."
