Another freezing cold and miserable Monday morning after a freezing cold miserable weekend and most of the previous week as well. I just ventured out to the few yards I have to go to the post office and I thought my ears might drop off. The radio announcer just reminded us that it is only a month until spring - so thank goodness for that.

The very unpleasant weather conditions caused Saturday's golf to be cancelled but on Sunday the ones really bitten by the golf bug donned their wet weather gear and braved the elements to play a two person Ambrose for trophies donated by John and Norma Blair. I thought Sunday was even worse than Saturday. Once again they declared it finished after nine holes when everyone was probably wet and certainly very cold. Wouldn't you think they would stay at home with a good book or do the chores that always come second to golf? I would think no one really enjoyed the outing. The winners after a draw for partners were Tony Blair and Clancy Grigg.
Next Saturday club trophies are planned and another two person Ambrose (draw for partners) on Sunday when Paul and Anne Glover will make the trophies available.
It is hoped that the course will be rated on Friday.
Jimmy Demaret once said that golf is a game based on honesty - where else would you admit to seven on a par three? And, Tommy Bolt once remarked that golf is a game where guts and blind devotion will always net you absolutely nothing but an ulcer.
Friends were saddened at the weekend to hear of the death of Jean Atkinson. Jean was a Binalong resident many years ago and after enduring illness for a very long time she died in the Liverpool hospital aged 80.
My better (or other?) half has been in the Yass hospital for nearly a week. Friends send him their best wishes. Meanwhile his nine girls are missing him. I don't talk to the chooks as kindly as he does.
Activities and teaching methods continue to move along at the school. Miss O'Connor has been assisted in a further reading scheme for years one and two and copies of the new geography syllabus have been received. Geography and history will be the basis of the HSIE syllabus.
Mr Bennett congratulates Ivy Saunders, Alivia Kruger and Alerya Bradshaw for mastering 90% of the mathematical activities they have attempted. Special certificates will be presented to them at the next assembly and also to other students who have gained bronze and silver awards. Footsteps Dance has begun and hopefully Sporting Schools will begin this week.
Last week stars were awarded to Tayla Merton, Thomas Duffy and Oscar Robinson.
Until next time.
