In the 21 years that followed, Yass' second grade rugby side has consistently come up empty handed, but that wasn't the case on Saturday.
Yass walked away victorious over the previously undefeated Goulburn Dirty Twos, after a free-flowing game of rugby at Simon Poidevin Oval.
The visitors got off to a flyer, with Tele Apineru crossing early on in the piece and Xavier Copeland scoring not long after that.
In a disastrous end to the half, though, Tele Apineru badly broke his leg in a tackle and is expected to miss most of next season.
"That was the one really horrible thing to happen on Saturday, but apart from that it was a good day for us," co-coach Bronson Sainsbury said.
Despite this, Yass went to the break 12-7 in front and confident about the second stanza.
But Yass fell asleep early in the second half and Goulburn managed to put on two quick tries to lead 19-12.
But the Hoggets hadn't gone this far to just lie down and Steven Teofilo and Mitch Beattie both scored to take Yass to a 24-19 lead with just minutes left.
"Goulburn just spent the last 10 minutes of the game camped in our 22, so to keep them out was a really impressive defensive effort," Sainsbury said.
"It looked like it was gone for all money at one point there but the boys got through."
Eriene Apineru, who took home the man of the match award, also managed to slot two conversions on the day.
"I was thinking I'd have to go on blood pressure tablets after the game, it was hard to watch but they pulled through, somehow."
Sainsbury said his side retired the number 1 jersey on Saturday, in memory of Ronald Connors, who passed away earlier this year.
"That was Ronnie's position so it was good to retire that jersey and play so well for him on Saturday."
Sainsbury admitted it's been a long time between drinks for the Hoggets and they made the most of it on Saturday night.
"It's been a really long wait for the Hoggets so to be a part of a team that broke that 22-year drought was something special, it was a really good night had by all on Saturday."
