Tobias Sheldon, who found fame on US reality show My Strange Addiction, was reported missing on August 18.

According to TMZ, Sheldon's body was found in a motel room in California's San Fernando Valley on Friday last week.

There were reportedly drugs in the room, although the LAPD have said it is unclear how the 35-year-old died.

When his disappearance was reported, the LAPD told E! Sheldon's disappearance could have been triggered by a relationship break-up. However, they were not treating the case as "suspicious".

Sheldon had been having surgery to make him look more like Bieber since 2008.

In his episode of My Strange Addiction, the aspiring singer-songwriter explained that he had invested in operations to prevent hair thinning from the age of 23, but when Bieber hit the big time, he decided to lower his hairline to recreate the Baby singer's low-swept fringe.

"Once Justin shot to fame his face was everywhere and I all I kept thinking when I saw his picture was, 'I want to look like him,"' he said on the episode, which aired in January 2014.

The hair surgery cost a total of $US21,000. Sheldon went on to alter other aspects of his appearance.

Sheldon had lip and face fillers, Botox and Aquamid injections as well as an upper eyelid lift to make his face look more like the teen heartthrob's.

He also had a three-part surgery to change the shape of his mouth to better emulate Bieber's smile

In July 2014, Sheldon appeared on plastic surgery reality show Botched, where he provided further insight into his obsession with Bieber's appearance.

"What brought me to Bieber was the whole package: the full cheeks, the full temples, the bright open eyes, the full luscious lips, and spatial framing … [he's] just extraordinarily beautiful."
