The Aussie Hotel Yass Roos played their last game for 2015 when they lost the Elimination Semi-final against Cooma last Sunday. The Roos fielded only twenty players for the match so this one was going to be hard to win. The Cats managed to reverse the recent home loss to the Roos when it counted and the final score was Cooma 9.16(70) to Yass 8.7(55).

The first quarter was an even tussle as both sides settled into the finals pressure. This was a do-or-die match that neither team felt ready to lose. At quarter time Cooma held a slender lead 3.4(22) to 3.2(20). There was a sense of surprise and optimism in Yass’ huddle, due to the fact that they were still so close on the scoreboard.
The second quarter proved to be decisive as Cooma came out and dominated possession for a four goal return, while the Roos struggled to get the ball forward. Cooma was up 7.6(48) to 3.4(22) at halftime and this was a solid lead in the context of the game.
The Roos lifted for the second half to outscore Cooma in both quarters but it was not enough to peg back the 26 point deficit at halftime. The Cats left the door open with wayward scoring attempts, kicking only 1.5 for both the third and fourth quarters. It was tantalisingly close for the Roos but the Cats held enough possession to frustrate the Roos and prevent them from gaining any momentum.
Adam Forth scored three goals for the Roos, Paul Willersdorf got two and Matt Bosustow, Ben Serafin and Toby Serafin had one each. Best players were Brendan Roweth, Raphael Willersdorf, Darren Pfeiffer, Dave Willersdorf, Ben Serafin and Toby Serafin.
Cooma will now travel to Cootamundra for the Preliminary Final, while Goulburn has progressed through to the Grand Final having defeated Cootamundra by two points in the qualifying semi-final.
That leaves the Roos with one more official event - The Presentation Night. This will take place at the Yass Golf Club on Friday September 11 from 6.30 pm. Tickets are only $30 and you can secure yours by calling Elkie Stuart on 0421 230 103. The Best and Fairest count will be a highlight as usual.
Fourth place and another finals appearance is not a bad achievement for the Roos in 2015. In this their 14th season, it makes eight seasons in which they have seen finals action, three times in the Grand Final and one premiership. Get a ticket to the Presentation and get along to join the celebrations. I’ve got mine and I will see you there.
