There is a rule - which in lieu of anything more appropriate we will call Rosenthal's Law. It states that all sequels must deliver ever-diminishing returns on the original, like some kind of metaphorical Roneo machine, its purple ink exhausted (or inhaled, deeply) but still spewing out ever-paler copies, page after page after page.
