The former Miss Universe Australia, who has been engaged to the Swans player since December, told Fitzy and Wippa that it was likely the marriage would take place in the next six months.

When asked if the couple would marry this year, Campbell, 23, said "maybe".

"We've only got a short period of time," she said on Sydney's Nova 96.9 on Monday, explaining that the wedding would need to be planned around Franklin's training commitments.

This year's AFL Grand Final will be played on October 3. Teams normally recommence training in February.

Campbell and Franklin have been in a relationship since October 2013.

Since becoming engaged to the 28-year-old Aboriginal football player, Campbell has spoken publicly about the race issues she anticipates will affect her future family.

On Australia Day this year, Campbell told Today that she wished Australians would increase their use of the Aboriginal flag when celebrating the national holiday.

"You can't go past the fact that Australia Day is also a very sad day for some people," she said.

"You know, for some people it's called Invasion Day for Indigenous people, so I would like to see moving forward Aboriginal flags or the Indigenous flags around studios. That, to me, would be a sign of really moving forward and the real Australia Day."

She spoke about parenting Franklin's future children in July, after Franklin's fellow Aboriginal Swans teammate Adam Goodes was subjected to racially motivated booing at matches.

"My future children are going to be Indigenous and because of his courage and his passion he is creating a better future for not only my children but all Indigenous children," she said on Today.

"So for that, I have to say, Adam you are a champion on the field, off the field, and I will stand by you."

As for their wedding, the pair have remained relatively tight-lipped.

Campbell told Confidential in February that her sister Aleysha would be one of her bridesmaids, describing her envisaged ceremony as "small and intimate".

Speaking to Sunday Style in April, the model said that she had chosen a designer for her wedding dress, although she was not going to reveal the name.
