The weekend of November 7-8 promises to be action packed with activities for everyone. Some will come to see the fabulous cars from the early 1900s through to the 70s, some will be competing in the Rotary Billy Cart Derby, while others will be strolling amongst the market stalls or attending the many activities on in town.
During Saturday, Sydney band ‘The Hips’ will play at Banjo Paterson Park and the evening will feature a 'Happy Days'-themed rock and roll dance. The cost is $10 for pre-booked tickets or $15 at the door. The venue for the dance is the Yass Soldiers Club.
There will be a number of great Saturday competitions, with prizes for the winners including Best Vehicles, Best Heritage Costumes and the Billy Cart Derby.
Yass will hum with activities and the visitors will be able to visit the Yass Soldiers Memorial Hall for a fantastic collection of historical artefacts and demonstrations, model railway with working trains, enjoy a devonshire tea and listen to Jeff Brown on classical harmonica.
For many, the Scouts and Rotary Farmers Market on Saturday will be the place to be.
On Sunday, ‘Cliftonwood’ will be open for the day. Hosted by the Yass Antique Farm Machinery Club, there will be tours of the historic homestead and stables, vintage ploughing demonstration and heavy horse displays. Food, coffee and cold drinks will be available.
Railway enthusiasts will also be able to view the Yass Railway Museum which will hold a special ‘Classic Yass’ Open Day on Sunday from 10am to 4pm. The museum houses railway memorabilia in the original station building. Included are static displays of original period steam engines, carriages and goods vans.
Now is the time to get yourself prepared, to book your classic car, purchase your fashions or put together your Billy Cart.
The team at Yass Valley Automotive & Offroad can help with your classic vehicles or other motoring requirements. You may even like to visit the Binalong Motor Museum to get inspiration.
