The awards recognised the significant contribution made by the local community to the education of students for their future vocations. Workplace learning coordinators, Capital Region Business Enterprise Council (CRBEC), headed by Program Manager, Anja Livingstone and workplace coordinators Charne Moorby and Carissa Mills, have been responsible for placing the students in our local community and working with teachers and students to find the most suitable employers in each industry area.
Employers were presented with framed certificates to recognise their role in producing the skilled tradespeople of the future for the Yass Valley and beyond. The lower floor of the new building is a specialist construction housing the Yass High School Community Trade Skills Centre. With facilities in Construction, Digital Technology, Metals and Engineering and Hospitality and complementing the continually improving Primary Industries facilities, this new centre is providing an industry standard education for Yass students and giving them qualifications toward the future employment.
Students in each course who made excellent contributions to their work placements were recognised with framed awards. They were Travis Ginders (construction), Brittany Burns (Primary Industries), Brodi Smith (Hospitality), Jayden Barnsley (Metals and Engineering), Tyrus Dates (Information and Digital Media Technology).
Some of the employers representing were Yass Valley Council (Grant Cooke), Think Technology (Caleb and Janine Bright), Draph'd Coloured Sheep Stud (Broni Jekkyl), Horton House, Galutzi and JBs Electrical.
All employers had glowing reviews of the “work readiness” of Yass High School students. They enjoyed a morning tea catered for by the hospitality students in the outdoor bistro.
Yass High would like to thank the Yass community for the support to build the new Trade Skills Centre and the continued involvement through the provision of quality work placement opportunities for students.
The grand opening of the new building is scheduled for February 26, 2016, and the school is expecting huge community support.
