Sometimes they even get a great festive photo to show for the effort of braving the shopping centre queues and cajoling their children to the front of the line.
Other times they get something altogether more amusing.
Like when Jade Dawson, of JadyBug Photography, snapped a shot of Reggie the red kelpie waiting for the perfect moment to photobomb his family’s Christmas photo on Redhead beach.
She explained that when you work with children, animals, and Santa, you were bound to capture some funny frames.
“I do get a fair few funny ones,” she said.
Belmont North’s Ti’ana Meston said she loved the offbeat shot of her children Indy-ana, 7, Jok, 4, and a screaming Clay, 2.
“We had ours with Jade last year and he did exactly the same thing,” Ms Meston said. “We had our dog with us and we both let him go to get Clay’s attention.”
“We loved it. I’m actually picking up a canvas of it.”
Ms Dawson heads to Redhead and Blacksmiths beaches to capture an Australian style of Santa photo in which Santa wears boardies, thongs and a straw hat.
Word of mouth had kept her busy this silly season, with her beach Santa photo sessions fully booked out.
“Pretty much after every photo shoot I do and I put a preview up, I get a minimum of 50 more enquiries,” she said.
