The Yass and District Annual Breeders Sheep Circuit Sale was conducted on Friday February 5 by local agents Butt Livestock & Property. Around 50 potential purchasers and onlookers travelled around Yass and district to 13 properties.

A quality offering of 8278 Merino sheep was on offer. A total of 6668 Merino ewes and 1092 Merino wether weaners sold on the day.
Young ewes 1.5 to 2.5 years sold from $72-$148 averaging $110 while the 6668 ewes averaged $106 right through. The top sale of the day was to Lawrence & Luff, ‘Warrawee’, 412 June shorn, 2013 drop Merino ewes NSM which sold for $148 to Peaty Pastoral Co, Breadalbane.
Phil Butt, principle of Butt Livestock & Property was pleased with the sale.
“I’m very happy for my clients,” he said. “The outlook for both lambs and wool is positive, and the sale reflected that optimism. Many of the buyers were taking advantage of seasonal conditions and setting themselves up for the future.”
Repeat buyer David Brown “Gambarra” Greenethorpe, purchased a total of 1195 Merino ewes, 2014 drop and sourced his preferred genetics from Cavan Station. He bought 442 Dec shorn ewes for $88, 155 Jan shorn ewes from Blackburn Past Co for $100 and 598 Jan shorn ewes, from Bertangles Pty Ltd, whose tops sold for $108.
Local producers, Peter Walker and sons James and Jack of Yass Plains Pty Ltd, guaranteed their purchase, paying $110 for the highly sought after 1011 ‘Cavan Station’ 2009 drop, Dec shorn, Merino ewes.
Other notable sales during the day include: Cavan Station’s 879, Dec shorn ewes, 2014 drop, averaged $107.90 with the tops selling for $128 to Dr Katherine Archer, ‘The Pines’ Yass. Michael and Rebecca Grogan ‘Illalong’ Binalong, sold 470 July shorn, Centreplus, Merino ewes, to average $126 with the top lot of 2014 drop ewes selling for $136 to “Groganville Past Co” Yass. Andrew and Michelle Southwell, Eden Brae Pastoral Co, sold 213, March shorn, 2009 drop, Merino ewes for $122 to local land holders Andrew and Leonie Leonard, ‘Mulliondale’ Yass. David and Jenny Hewlett, Blackburn Past Co offered 475 Jan shorn ewes to average $114, with the 320 mixed aged ewes selling for $122. Doug and Helen Painting ‘Deep Water’ Bookham sold a run of 780 Merino wether weaners for $64 to Chris Brown, of Lavenham Past Co, Boorowa.
