As a daughter whose father, John Elliott fought in Vietnam and as a child, watched the torment he has lived through, as all veteran’s children would have, it is with my sincerest thanks to Cyril Cox for organising such an honouring service. The Dawn service honoured all who have served, lost their lives and those who are still serving and the fact it was held in my village it had that extra special feeling and memory I will forever hold. Speaking with my Dad after the service his reaction was one of appreciation, even though he was not at all feeling well he was certainly glad he attended and was keen to share his gratitude. Among the other Vietnam Veterans much the same was spoken, all positive and gracious words directed at the organisers and the community who showed their support to these courageous and respected men.

Around 212 adults and a dozen or more children attended the morning service commencing at 5.30am, Adam Farquarhson came from Tumut with his family especially to play the bugle. Adam grew up in Bowning and his father Brett Farquarhson served in Vietnam also and this added to the closeness of community with the ‘Last Post’ being played. The lighting was an amazing effect to the morning and made for touching photography. The Bowning Buffaloes served up a brekky to warm the belly and raised money towards Legacy, great job lads. ANZAC dedication read by Pastor Gary Brown, numerous family, council and business houses laid wreaths and the Buffaloes raised $500 for Legacy
Thank you to all who were involved in making such a memorable morning.
