On ANZAC Day I had the pleasure of attending the Dawn Service at Belmore Park Goulburn and the later service at Mittagong. Both were excellent ceremonies and it was so good to see so many people in attendance, firstly in a cold misty morning at Belmore Park and then under the warm sun at Mittagong. The ANZAC spirit is clearly alive and well throughout our area!

On a sadder note, we had a horrible long weekend on our roads with a 17 year old girl losing her life in a horrific crash at Braemar and an 18 year old young man losing his life in a trail bike accident at Taralga. Both appear to be caused by driver error and lack of experience. Both are an absolute tragedy and a waste of young lives, and completely avoidable. I am not sure that the Police can do much more to stop these incidents from occurring, however let me assure you we will try. Expect to see more police out on the road targeting road safety and trauma over the coming months.
I would also like to touch on another issue that Police throughout our area will be targeting heavily, that is domestic violence. This issue is what we consider high risk and everyone needs to know that police take no chances when it comes to responding to domestic violence. Police are obliged to take action when responding to reports of domestic violence and I personally scrutinise each such incident that is reported to our local police. We investigate domestic violence like any other crime, and we will specifically target repeat offenders and ensure we do our utmost to keep those involved as victims as safe as possible. We have introduced a number of new strategies and initiatives targeting domestic violence and we have made it easier for victims to give evidence in such matters. Remember domestic violence is not a personal or private matter, it is a crime and we will treat the perpetrators as criminals and prosecute them accordingly.
Until next week...
