New owners Kogan.com had previously said the site would be launched on June 1, but www.dicksmith.com.au was live Wednesday morning, with a boast that the shop was "back and better than ever".

Kogan.com executive director David Shafer said he was proud of the quick turnaround on the site.

"We are extremely proud of the speed with which we were able to relaunch the Dick Smith online business, with a leading website, product range, and back-end systems to power the operation," he said. "All orders from today onwards come with the full backing of the Kogan.com business, and are supported by our first class Australian customer service team."

The page, which bears a striking resemblance to Kogan.com itself, was running a "relaunch sale" featuring deals on smartphones, LED televisions, portable hard drives and other devices core to both Kogan and Dick Smith's sales base.

The products available are a remarkable improvement on the dregs of stock available at two stores in Melbourne's CBD visited by Fairfax Media last week.

Perhaps most notably, "heaps" of Dick Smith's home-branded goods were available at the physical stores last week, but there are no home-branded goods available from the online shop. A spokeswoman said Dick Smith-branded items would become available in the future.

There is, however, a massive selection of Kogan-branded goods available alongside products from Apple, Samsung and Canon, among others.

"Dick Smith's recent history has been disappointing for many Australians, but for millions of us, it is an iconic brand we all know and love," Mr Shafer said. "We will work hard to restore the faith Australians have put in the Dick Smith brand for almost 50 years."
