It was another exciting weekend for the Butt Livestock Rams under 8s. It was a well-matched game between Rosary and the Rams under 8s at Weetangera Oval with the Rams coming home winners 8 tries to 7.
6 of our 8 players took to the field with some help from Sam Leighton from the Under 7s. Angus Grogan, Declan Cooke, Darrien Kelly and Jimmy Reagan each scored 1 try with Nick Marchei and Hughie Merriman scoring 2 tries each. The boys played really well as a team in both attack and defence and are looking forward to getting back on the field again this Saturday!

Under 10s
Foggy conditions and a well drilled opposition greeted the Integrated Farming Systems Under 10’s Rams as they strode onto the manicured surface of the Grammar main oval. A blistering run from Jack Field from the kick off which saw him pulled down just metres short of the line sent the message that the woolly warriors from Yass were not going to be intimidated by their opposition or the auspicious surroundings. Some solid play from both teams followed before the Grammar team hit their straps and were able to convert pressure into points through three quick tries. Yass began to display dominance in the scrums and were mauling with intent but were not getting the “rub of the green” and were unable to get across the line. As with last week, the second half saw an improved performance from Yass particularly in defence as some solid tackling from Charles, Hamish and Poppy was supported by the rest of the team in closing down a lot of the Grammar attack. All in all it was a spirited display by the team with plenty of promise as the season progresses.

Under 12s
The Yass Earth Movers under 12’s played went down in a thrilling encounter with Wests in Canberra. The young Rams came back to reality after last week’s cruising victory, with Wests dominant work at the breakdown hard to counter. Front rower Brad Hinds put in a barnstorming display in attack and defence, regularly bending the Wests line. Best of the backs was newcomer Timmy McPhillips, who led a fight back later in the match, scoring a double and being voted players player. Jesse Brooks and Jamie Howlett continue to develop a strong second row partnership, while Tom Anderson, Ben Britton, Joe Walsh and Jack Reeks all toiled hard. With Yass struggling for possession there was little opportunity for running rugby, forcing outside backs Spencer Allen, Finn Dunn, Lachie Wales and William Kimpton to make a number of tackles, while centres Jacob Leu and Edward Field-Wilson both ran hard for limited reward against the well-drilled Wests defence. Sam Clark was the other try scorer while Fraser Weller slotted two conversions. Wests 21 def. Yass 19.
