Today I want to let you know of some of the great work being done by our Police tackling youth issues. Earlier this week I met with police officers from both the Goulburn and Mittagong PCYC clubs and our local police youth and school liaison officers. They are doing some great work building relationships with at risk youth, giving them hope and pathways to turn their life around. They have programs tackling everything from physical and mental health issues, domestic violence, housing, drug issues, and work together with representatives from other agencies like FACS, Department of Education and TAFE to give these kids a hope to get out of a crime cycle and into a fruitful and happy life. I was very impressed with the passion of our police and their clear intent to do all they can to help these kids.

Over the last few weeks we have had another two fatal accidents in our area. A 60 year old male lost his life as the motorcycle he was riding collided with another vehicle at Burrawang and at Moss Vale a 52 year old male lost his life on the Illawarra Highway. How the other young men involved in the Moss Vale accident walked away from it I will never know, very lucky I guess. Both accidents appear to have been caused by a lack of attention to the roads and were both completely avoidable. A devastating waste of two lives. I am not sure if the police can do much more out on the roads, we have them out and about as often as possible however these tragic incidents continue to occur. We have had 10 people lose their lives on our roads this year, a terrible result. I am pleading that the people who use our roads do so with care.
Until next week...
