In an announcement on Friday, Shadow Minister for Health, Catherine King, alongside Mr Kelly, committed $2 million for the Yass Hospital to build a facility to accommodate doctors, locums, medical students and medical officers.
Mr Kelly described the funding as a way to ensure ‘no area is left behind’.
“The funding will go to a new on-site facility and share home,” he said.
“This is what the residents of Yass have really been crying out for, it’s what I have heard from the communication with me and watching the news reports.”
“Yass has been crying out for this kind of facility for far too long. It will take pressure off Canberra but also get people back to their local communities faster and ensure places like Yass are able to provide these important facilities.”
The share-house will be a three to five bedroom home built on the grounds of Yass Hospital.
“It really will help to increase the health workforce for the people of Yass,” Ms King said.
“Hopefully this will be a way of continuing to grow the health facilities in the Yass Valley.”
