The game was an entertaining affair as both teams were willing to throw the ball around despite the greasy conditions.
Yass led 6-0 at the break courtesy of a smart try to Casey Edwards after a break down the left hand side. Farah Attallah then stepped up to take the conversion from the sideline and the ball hit the crossbar and bounced over.
Belconnen hit back mid way through the second half with an unconverted try to reduce the margin to 6-4 and it was a tense final 15 minutes.
Sophie Broadhead nearly put Yass further ahead but was ruled to have lost the ball over the line before Bronwyn Pollack showed her skill to slip through a gap for a try with ten minutes remaining.
The Sharks made a couple of half breaks during the remaining time but the Yass girls managed to shut them down and come away with a well deserved win.
The Yass team as a whole played well and coach Ben Wylie was very pleased with both the effort and execution of the girls.
For the Girlpies, Broadhead was the most dangerous player on the field with her sizzling pace creating all sorts of headaches for the Sharks defence. Attalah, Renae Sparnon and Kate Wylie were busy around the centre while Jess Howard was prominent despite coming in for some unwarranted attention from the opposition.
The girls are the only Yass side playing this weekend when they travel across to Gungahlin to play Tuggeranong at 2.40pm on Saturday.
