The video, uploaded to Facebook by truck driver Richie Gillman, shows a white station wagon narrowly missing a B-double truck as it overtakes Mr Gillman's on the Monaro Highway at Bunyan, near Cooma, on Friday.

Under his post online, Mr Gillman said it was closer than it looked, and he wasn't aware of the car before a truck driver behind him called it over the radio.

Police said officers from Monaro Highway Patrol watched the video and made inquiries before speaking with the 84-year-old Cooma man on Monday.

He was issued a court attendance notice for the offence of overtake vehicle when unsafe and will appear at Cooma Local Court in August.
