The weekend had arrived and the rain had stopped, much to the pleasure of the members of the Yass Golf Club. Saturday’s temperature didn’t get to very much, but the members were keen for a hit, with a good field of 48 players turning out. The course was in good condition considering the week’s rain, but very slow and it reflected in the scores. The best in the A grade was Michael Bell with 36 points giving him the prize and the best for the day was Michael Abbey with 37 points which got him the B grade prize. In Sunday’s Flag event Graham Fleming came out and had an impressive 76 off the stick, 65 Net to take the flag up to the 2nd tee with 3 shots on hand Graham managed to birdie the 1st hole and take out the event. The only other player having a shot up the 1st was Lachlan Kemp with his 67 Net.
The Luff Cup, Fourball Match Play championships is under way with the first round of play nearing completion, with only a few matches yet to be played. The matches that have been played to date are, Paul Matthews and Peter Brady defeated Jamie Roche and Mick Abbey, Bob Johnson and Norm Napper defeated John Watt and Ted Nelson, Adam Danilczak and Mitch Grange defeated Ray Colburn and Karl Boege, Tony Bayley and Mick Bell got up over last year’s champions, Nev Matthews and Wayne Wilson.
This Saturday is the On Trend Clothing Guzzlers Mug event and then on Wednesday the Yass Junior Open is taking place, which will see players from district and all over converge to Yass. Good luck to all the Juniors competing and a big thanks to the sponsor Yass Nursery.

Winners: A grade: Michael Bell (13) 36 points. B grade: Michael Abbey (25) 37 points. Ball winners: M Abbey 37, M Bell 36, J Porter, W Whyte 35, A Bayley, C Bradley, A Danilczak, D Douglas, T Kelly, C Kemp, M Partridge 34, W Mackay, B Partridge and B Abbey 33 Ocb. The Australian Hotel nearest the pins went to Craig McDermott 376cm on the 8th and Wayne Wilson 168cm on the 16th hole. The Yass Valley Tyre Service 11th hole went to Graham Fleming 545cm and the Yass Golf Club 15th hole Calcutta tickets went to Blake Partridge with a shot to 503cm.
Sunday June 26: Flag Event
Winner: Graham Fleming 76-11-65. Ball winners: G Fleming 65, L Kemp 67, M Auld 68 and P Matthews 68 Net Ocb. The nearest the pin on the 16th went to Rick Jackson with a shot to 75cm.
Dad’s Army Competition: June 23
Only eight Troops faced the starter last week in the Dad's Army Competition and scoring was again on the low side as Joe Morrissey's 15 points was enough to get him the money and Clive Phillips with 14 points collected the only ball on offer. Scoring ranged from 15 down to 8 points.
