“Wet wipes may make life easier, but they are a nightmare for our sewerage network,” said Yass Valley Council’s Water & Sewer Coordinator, Stuart Johnson. “Last financial year we had 19 sewer mains and 23 house drains blocked due to wet wipes, this equates to 24 days of work for two staff members just to clear the blockage and clean up the mess left behind.”

Wet wipes cause approximately 60 per cent of blockages in Yass township and while time consuming to fix for council staff, it can also be extremely expensive for home owners.
