The coming months are the best time to enjoy a large range of high quality events packed with real country charm.
In fact, ‘tis the season for enjoying the best things in life – regional food and wine, colourful characters, the arts, live music and cultural pursuits that the Yass Valley is renowned for.
“Whether it’s a feast for your eyes, ears or taste buds, Yass Valley is bringing colour and excitement to the region throughout spring,” according to the council’s Economic Development and Tourism Manager, Sean Haylan.
“For those who share an affinity with the creative, join us for Sculpture in the Paddock. Sydney, you may well have your Sculpture by the Sea, but our installations are much more ‘down to earth’ in the Yass Valley.”
The historic National Trust ‘Cooma Cottage’, once home to Hamilton Hume, plays host to Yass’ sculpture festival – Sculpture in the Paddock.
Conceived in 2013, the festival continues to delight locals and visitors who venture out to Cooma Cottage to pace through the grounds and interact with these installations in a truly unique event. Featuring sculptures that are poignant and sympathetic to the landscape, this festival boasts work from local sculptors of national and international standing.
Sculpture in the Paddock runs from September 16 to October 9 (see page 3 for more information).
“If live music is more to your taste, you’ll be spoilt for choice with the Turning Wave Festival and Gundaroo Music Festival,” Mr Haylan continued.
The Turning Wave festival celebrates Irish and Australian music in a family-friendly relaxed environment in Yass from September 16-18 and applauds the diversity and spirit of this renowned music style.
With the theme for this year being ‘community’ you can expect a welcoming and convivial event that will showcase diverse styles from acoustic and Celtic to bluegrass, roots and country.
“And we can’t forget about our delicious food and wine options,” Mr Haylan continued. “Indulge yourself and enjoy quality time with friends and loved ones at the Murrumbateman Moving Feast and Festival of Flavours – you really will get to experience the best tastes of our region.”
