His new poetry collection Maps of Small Countries (Ginninderra Press) shows attention to the physical, sensual world (unsurprising in one who makes his living by farming in the Southern Tablelands of NSW), a muscularity of language and a fondness for the striking image. He was the winner of the national Dorothy Porter Award last year.
A popular bimonthly event, a Brush with Poetry is a unique mix of prize winning contemporary poets of all styles, champion bush performers of traditional and humorous verse and up and coming poets of all kinds sharing the mic.
Performers and audience members travel from across the Canberra, Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions and beyond. Musicians often roll up and occasionally featured poets make special appearances.
A Brush with Poetry resented by Binalong Arts Group Inc (BAG) is guaranteed entertaining, moving, heart warming, amusing. It is a highlight of the region’s cultural calendar. Come along Sunday, 1.30 for a 2.00pm start at the Black Swan Gallery, Binalong.
