It is one of two new mobile units for the service in the greater southern area. The van will be located at the Yass Showgrounds via Grand Junction Road (turn right into sideshow alley, parking near the van).
The van helps support early detection for the one in eight women in NSW affected by breast cancer in their lifetime.
“This is a vital piece of health infrastructure, bringing potentially lifesaving cancer screening to women without the need to travel long distances to larger towns and cities,” Acting Executive Director Nursing and Midwifery for Southern NSW Local Health District, Cherie Puckett said.
“This mobile unit will screen women in Yass then move on to other areas of the Local Health District.”
The Cancer Institute NSW (CINSW) manages the state-wide breast screening program, which is delivered by the Screening and Assessment Services in Local Health Districts.
“A woman diagnosed with breast cancer in NSW today has among the highest chances of survival in the world. However, we know that early detection is the key to survival,” Ms McGill said.
“These mammograms can detect cancers before they can be seen or felt. If detected early, survival from breast cancer can be as high as 97 per cent.”
It is vital for all women aged between 50 and 74 to have a mammogram every two years at BreastScreen NSW.
It is a free service that could save your life. Women should call 13 20 50 to book a breast screen today.
